Hosting Services – Southampton - PEER 1 Hosting, the global online IT hosting provider, is bringing a new standard in data centre efficiency to Britain, offering a predicted PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) rating of 1.1, the lowest in the country by a considerable margin, to customers of its new data centre in Portsmouth, UK.
By signing with Excool, a UK-based, innovative cooling technology specialist, PEER 1 Hosting will become the first data centre in the world to work with Excool, delivering the greenest state-of-the-art facility for managed hosting, dedicated hosting, cloud and co-location, all under one roof.
The Excool cooling technology uses indirect adiabatic cooling through a modular external design. Indoor air is cooled by indirectly transferring the heat to the outdoor air through Excool’s unique and highly efficient heat exchange system and low energy fans. On hot days the temperature of the outdoor air stream is lowered significantly by the introduction of moisture. Through its simplicity Excool provides greater resilience and reliability than typical systems, and can provide up to 95% power reduction making it the UK’s lowest energy and lowest carbon cooling solution.

PEER 1 Hosting plans on adding up to three Excool units this year, with extra units coming online as each of the five data centre pods are rolled out.

The Portsmouth facility will operate as PEER 1’s second data centre in the UK, in addition to its existing site in Fleet, Hampshire and will be connected to PEER 1’s wholly owned 10Gb network. With capacity for approximately 1,020 normal cabinet equivalents (NCE) for co-location or 20,000 servers for managed and dedicated hosting, PEER 1 Hosting will offer a flexible mix of hybrid hosting services to meet future customer demand.
